September, 2011

Donna Johnson, Director of the VISTA Initiative, has put together a team of six VISTA/AmeriCorps volunteers with impressive backgrounds and personal philosophies of service. They are now settling in to their host sites, to carry out the RoundTable's Advocacy and Leadership Project. They will be attending the upcoming Annual Symposium in October, so look for them!

Isobel Moiles will be working with Maine Rural Partners, where she will help create a network of rural health stakeholders to help individuals share ideas and collaborate on projects across the state. She's a recent graduate of Bates College
Jackie Parseghian is assigned to the MA State Office of Rural Health, where she hopes to increase awareness of rural NE communities, as well as to strengthen the work and capacity of the state's rural health advocacy network. Jackie earned a B.S. in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Paige St. Cyr is our New Hampshire VISTA . She will be working with the North Country Health Consortium in Littleton. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Paige will focus on analyzing national reform implications for rural residents, along with tracking state and national legislation.
Clayton Barnes, a 2011 graduate of the University of Vermont, will be working with two organizations in Vermont: the Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care and the Vermont Farm Health Task Force.
Mika Matsuuchi, a Bowdoin College graduate, will be working with the Rhode Island Department of Health and the RI Parent Information Network to establish and support a rural health network.
Lauren Bouton is a graduate of Auburn University and is working with the Foundation for Community Health in Sharon, CT. She is interested in access to behavioral/mental health services for children and families in rural communities. Other projects she's working on are children's dental health and immigrant and senior health needs.

In the fall of 2010, the RoundTable received a Cox Foundation grant to expand its advocacy efforts, contingent upon our December 2010 approval to become a multi-site VISTA initiative. Our VISTA members will carry out activities to promote practical changes for state and regional rural health access and health coverage. Each VISTA member will be the state lead and key liaison to the RoundTable and will focus on state-specific rural health issues as well as issues that reflect regional and national concerns. One of the key goals of the Initiative is to assure that health networks within each state are linked through a host of communication approaches to the RoundTable.
