The US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced on October 4th an award of $600,000 to the University of North Dakota's Center for Rural Health in Grand Forks to establish a Rural Assistance Center. The RAC will replace the former contract with the Rural Information Center Health Services (RICHS) which is now closed.
The RAC will serve as a resource for rural residents and anyone seeking information about health policy and social services for rural communities. Guided by a recommendation made in the HHS Rural Task Force Report, the RAC will serve as a point of entry to the 225 HHS programs serving rural areas. RAC information specialists will help customers find the best HHS funding opportunities and other resources for their communities.
The RAC will also:
- make referrals to federal and state agencies;
- conduct Internet and database searches, examine research literature on rural topics; and
- provide publications, maintain a Web site, and staff a toll-free phone line.
Funded by HRSA's Office of Rural Health Policy (http://ruralhealth.hrsa.gov/), the RAC is interested in hearing more about customer needs
Sharleen Moffat and Cathleen McElligott, also Massachusetts RoundTable Board Members, developed an exhibit for the RoundTable to be used at conferences and meetings to create more visibility for the organization and promote membership and involvement. This display catches the eye with colorful photos of our activities, such as the conference. Information about the organization and its purpose, membership, and activities is included. The display can be borrowed and used by members at meetings or conferences. Your first chance to see the display will be in the exhibit area at the annual RoundTable symposium in Nashua. For more information about borrowing the exhibit, contact Cathleen McElligott at or (508) 792-7880.
