6th Annual New England Rural Health RoundTable

We welcome you to join us at "Healthy Rural Communities: In Action," the 6th Annual New England Rural Health Roundtable Symposium. Due to the success of last year's event, we are again holding the conference in conjunction with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This year CMS is sponsoring a day-long seminar preceding the Symposium. The agenda for October 15th from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. will address Medicare and Medicaid issues concerning rural providers and beneficiaries. The seminar includes plenary sessions and concurrent workshops featuring CMS officials from both the Central Office and Boston Regional Office. The Roundtable Symposium follows on Thursday and Friday, offering a wide variety of sessions to showcase how our rural communities are taking action and promoting access to rural health care.

Target Audience: Physicians, nurses, policy makers, representatives of community - based organizations, and others interested in rural health

Program Objectives

  • Discuss new federal Medicare and Medicaid initiatives that support rural health provider
  • Describe HIPAA standards for electronic health transactions and compliance with HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Outline and compare barriers to access to behavioral health services in six New England states, as well as identify existing and planned programs to overcome these barriers.
  • Describe innovative programs targeted to special needs populations in rural communities, including the uninsured, substance abusers, migrant farm workers and the elderly.
  • Identify strategic for performance improvement in small, rural hospitals.
