5th Annual New England Rural Health RoundTable

Welcome to "Healthy Rural Communities: Moving Forward," the 5th Annual New England Rural Health RoundTable. This year, we are holding the conference in conjunction with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS is sponsoring a half-day seminar preceding the Symposium on October 23rd from 1:00 pm to 5:00 PM which will address Medicare and Medicaid issues concerning rural providers and beneficiaries. This seminar will include Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services officials from both the Central Office and the Boston Regional Office. The Roundtable Symposium follows on Thursday and Friday, offering a variety of sessions to assist attendees in moving forward in promoting access to rural health care. Please join us in our commitment to rural health!

Program Objectives

  • Discuss new federal initiatives for improving care for Medicaid and Medicare patients living in rural New England communities, including improving access to, and quality of, care.
  • Discuss Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act confidentiality standards as well as identify resources to assist with compliance.
  • Outline and compare barriers to access to dental services in five New England states, as well as identify existing and planned programs to overcome these barriers
  • Describe innovative programs targeted to special needs populations in rural communities, including the uninsured, children with special medical needs, and those at risk for HIV
  • Identify characteristics for the successful development of local community coalitions.
  • Explore and discuss "best practices" and innovations in the provision of rural health services across the region.
